Please use this link to verify the NGC certification number 4842685001 Germanos III (1771–1826), born Georgios Gotzias, was an Orthodox Metropolitan of Patras. On Sunday, March 13, 1821, Germanos blessed the standard during the liturgy at Agia Lavra Monastery in Achaea, and on March 25 1821, blessed the fighters at Agia Lavra and hoisted the flag of the Greek War of Independence in St. George's Square at Patrai.
According to tradition and several written sources, on March 25, the Feast of Annunciation, 1821, Bishop Germanos proclaimed the national uprising against the Ottoman Empire and blessed the flag of the revolution at the Monastery of Agia Lavra.Archbishop Germanos of Patras blesses the revolutionary flag (Painted by Theodoros Vryzakis, 1865)
