The architect for the Walhalla was Leo van Klenze (1784-1864). His technical education, begun in Berlin, was supplemented by studies in Italy and England. Upon his return to Germany van Klenze was appointed court architect for King Jerome of Westphalia. Later, one of his major patrons was the Crown Prince of Bavaria. Among his best works are the Leuchtenberg palace in Munich and the Walhalla near Regensburg, the subject of this medal. [from HistoricalArtMedals.com].
