The Pimprez Hoard was discovered in a village in Picardy (Pimprez, Oise) in 2002. It consisted of 446 English Pennies from the reigns of Henry I and Stephen and 126 coins from mints in the Empire. There were also 12 silver ingots discovered. The coins were thought to have been put together around 1120 AD and later taken to France, early in the reign of Stephen suggesting diplomatic connections between the English and Imperial courts. All of the coins were of good silver. There were no billion pieces, French or otherwise. The finder of the hoard subsequently asked a Paris numismatic firm to sell the coins on his behalf, however no French museum was prepared to purchase the pieces at their estimated prices, particularly as there were no French coins. The Hoard was then offered to Spink (UK) who purchased them and offered them privately and publicly through the firms Numismatic Circular sales.
