An oil on canvas sketch by the painter Isadore Pils held in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and intended for a larger canvas commissioned for Versailles, illustrates the 18 September 1860 visit by Napoleon III and Eugéinie to Algeria which was previously been conquered by France in 1830.
