/ FINIS/ GERMANIAE/ 1870 (The end of Germany). Two-line inscription and date within wreath. Mazard 1749a Variant (unlisted); VG-3758; G.-739a Variant (unlisted).
Satirical medal mocking the French Emperor Napoleon III struck after the design of a 5 Francs coin, as an alleged issue minted by the French Emperor in anticipation of the French army's victory in the Franco-German war of 1870/71. Unlisted in this gilt finish and presumably extremely rare; superb surfaces.
