Louis d'Or de Noailles were named after Duke of Noailles, a powerful leading financial figure of the day. These coins were always struck on fresh planchets with a high non-standard weight (the heaviest planchets used for any Louis d'Or), which often led to confusion with the double Louis d'Or denomination.
