In 1912, Serbia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, and Greece formed a military alliance with the aim of driving the Ottoman Empire out of the Balkans and dividing the conquered territories among themselves. In the two subsequent Balkan Wars of 1912 and 1913, the Ottoman Empire was pushed back to the present-day borders of Turkey.
