Stuck to commemorate the laying of the foundation stone of Trinity Church. The Dominican church, which had been jointly used by the Regensburg Protestants and Dominicans since 1563, was returned to the Dominicans in 1626; as such the Protestant city council decided to build a new Protestant church. The foundation stone of the Church of the Holy Trinity (St. Trinitatis), which today is one of the most important landmarks of the city, was laid on July 4, 1627. This extremely rare five ducats was minted for this occasion, depicting the planned building and the shields and initials of the Protestant councilors. Exceedingly rare denomination unlisted in Plato and Friedberg.
